The LIGHT of the World for the Darkest Day of the Year, a Song

Today is the shortest day, the longest night of the year in this hemisphere.  Or at least the shortest amount of daylight.   Now it starts going the other direction.  I LOVE this!!!

So I have the PERFECT song for Advent from Matt Redman, Light of the World!

This is one of those songs I could sing all day.  If you turn it up loud, by the end you’ll feel like you have joined a Gospel choir (which I once got to be in and wish to do again someday!).161 From a Christmas show in 2011

Your birth was prophesied, for You are the Messiah who came and walked upon the earth.

Your glory we have seen, the One and only King and now You’re living in our hearts…

Light of the world, Light of the world, Light of the world, You shine upon us!

And yet You became flesh, living as one of us under the shadow of the cross, where through the blood You shed, You have made peace again ~ Peace for the world that God so loves!

Geez-louise, I HATE when Christians get all haughty like God no longer loves this world and its’ inhabitants.  That kind of ridiculousness negates the power of the blood Jesus shed and the righteousness He bought for us, while WE (yes, even us) were yet sinners.

It is Christmas, doggone it, people.  We need to be the proclaimers of that prophetic, bright-light, very-merry Word from the Book of Isaiah to people living in darkness and despair, to those who are losing hope:

“Arise, shine, for your Light has come and the glory of the LORD is risen upon YOU!”  (Is. 60.1)

Song for a Sunday // Let me be SINGING when the evening comes

Matt Redman is the greatest hymnist of our day.  If the Lord tarries, the church will be singing his songs a hundred years from now.  They will last.

He just writes the best lyrics, ancient truth with fresh words.

My favorite line:

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes.

I am watching Kai this early Sunday morning while his parents lead worship at two services in Loveland.  The drive over was magical.  The sun rose like a ball of pink and orange fire and I let it consume my rear-view mirror and nearly blind me to be lit up by it.  Ahead of me were crystal-clear, generously snow-capped mountains (yes, it is majesty) and on each side of the road, steamy-fog was rising rapidly, dancing wildly and burning off in the blaze of morning glory.

Kai and I are sitting in the morning sun now, singing…singing…singing to the bird-chip sounds.

It’s easy to sing in the new light of day.

But the song – It is like a prayer: whatever happens today, Lord, whatever obstacles I face, whatever pain I encounter, whatever hardship, whatever doesn’t go like I thought it should; all the good, the bad and the ugly I see, I say to my own soul {my mind-my will-my emotions} Bless the Lord, oh my soul.  And even if I am limping to get there, Let me be singing {still} when the evening comes.  Amen!

Song for a Christmas Sunday ~ Light of the World

Light of the World by Matt Redman

Is. 9.2 a people walking in darkness have seen a great light

This version of the song is from Chris Tomlin’s  Christmas album, but the musical genius (Matt) wrote it (and leads most of it) and every Christmas, I can’t help singing it.  And each Christmas when I drive  into my neighborhood and see the lights on the houses, I know they are declaring, whether those who strung them realize the truth they  represent or not, that the Light of the world came.  Every twinkling light, every candle lit that pierces the darkness that would otherwise be there represents Jesus, the light of the world.   Jesus dispelled a darkness that can never overtake us again.  We are children of the Light.

I look out my window on a December night and I remember: The Light came, He shines!

John 8.12 Jesus said: I am the light of the world…

Light of the world

You shine upon us!

Sunday Song ~ Beautiful News!

Beautiful News

Joy is the theme of my song,
And the beat of my heart,
And that joy is found in You.
For You showed the power of Your cross
And your great saving love,
And my soul woke up to You.
I heard Your beautiful news;
Grace so amazing, so true…

Shout it out, let the people sing
Something so powerful should shake the whole wide world.
Make it loud, make it louder still;
Saviour we´re singing now to celebrate Your beautiful news.

There´s a God who came down to save
Showed the world His amazing grace
There´s a God who came down to save
And He calls your name

Now to Live the Life

The song I am singing today by one of my favorite psalmists, Matt Redman.

Many are the words we speak
Many are the songs we sing
Many kinds of offerings
But now to live the life

Help us live the life
Help us live the life
All we want to do is bring you something real
Bring You something true

We hope that – Precious are the words we speak
We pray that – Precious are the songs we sing
Precious all these offerings
But now to live the life
Help us live the life
Help us live the life
All we want to do is bring you something real
Bring You something true

Blessings today…Jeanie

NOTE TO SELF:  I read this today: “The conviction of the truth of Scripture will lead us to live in a manner consistent with this truth.”  Make it so in me, Lord.
