Dave’s 50th birthday is Monday. This is the 4th in a week-long series of love-tributes to my Dave. The previous posts are 50 Things I Love about Dave, 50 Words that Describe Dave, and 50 Reasons Dave was born.
We thought every song was about us and our love for the first, oh, 26 or 27 years (we’ll celebrate 28 years of marriage this summer)…Below are a few of the early ones that ignite some memories.

- I had to delete a bunch of “our songs”. Too many. But last night on American Idol, I heard yet another song about Dave and me by Brad Paisley, Then. It is a song of memory, looking back to the first kiss and having babies days. It recalls all the love of those days, but then goes on:
Now you’re my whole life
Now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you
Like a river meets the sea
Stronger than its ever been
We’ve come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then
I can just see you
When you’re hair is turning gray
What I can’t see
is how I’m gonna love you more
But I’ve said that beforeNow you’re my whole life
Now you’re my whole world
We’ll look back someday at this moment that we’re in
And I’ll look at you and say
And I thought I loved you then
And I thought I loved you then…
Keep singing to me, babe and I’ll keep singing to you!…Jeanie
Happy 50th Birthday, Dave!
I love your tributes to Dave! They are so awesome.
And? Some of the things you have to say remind me of My Hubby and me. In this list? #38 brings back some SERIOUS memories. I can see him, in my friend’s front room, Chicago 17 on the turntable (because they, you know, had a RECORD PLAYER), Hard Habit to Break going strong…
He was 17, I was 15. He was wearing a blue and white-striped shirt and his hair was long. He smelled amazing and he had an eagle pendant on a long chain. He had his arms around me and I thought we were the only two people alive on the planet.
I’ll never forget it.
I love that songs lock those kinds of memories in our brains.
Congrats to you both for so many years of amazing memories!
I knew Dave for almost three years before we ever had our first date. It is cool, like for you guys, that there was an immediate something…igt just had to wait, but was worth it. I would like to hear your whole love story sometime! :)
I had to chuckle when I read #8 – Whitney’s “Saving All My Love For You”. Long about 1993 I was at Taste Of Chicago with a friend who practically forced me to sing to the crowd in a Karaoke fashion, and this was the song I chose. I’d sang the words many times in the ten years I’d known it, but never realized that it was about a woman having an affair with a married man until I sang the words that day just after I had dedicated the song to my HUSBAND!!! “A few stolen moments is all that we share. You’ve got your family and they need you there …” he he he. BUT, the title sure fits! I love that you guys still have the song in you for eachother!
Yes-luckily, I only sing the words that are right. But that song was so huge!
There are so many that I could site. One that came to mind was a more recent one from one of our favorite movies: Love Actually
By Dido:
“Here With Me”
I didn’t hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
And I don’t want to move a thing
It might change my memory
[Chorus:]
Oh I am what I am
I’ll do what I want
But I can’t hide
I won’t go
I won’t sleep
I can’t breathe
Until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave
I can’t hide
I cannot be
Until you’re resting here with me
I don’t want to call my friends
They might wake me from this dream
And I can’t leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that’s been
(chorus again)
And leave us not forget that great one by Celine:
From the movie: Up Close And Personal
Because You Loved Me
For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I’ll be forever thankful baby
You’re the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You’re the one who saw me through through it all
You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn’t speak
You were my eyes when I couldn’t see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn’t reach
You gave me faith ‘coz you believed
I’m everything I am
Because you loved me
You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I’m grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don’t know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you
You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You’ve been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you
I’m everything I am
Because you loved me
